Longitudinal Study

This study used statistical analysis on 164 complete sets of OQ data to determine whether Hamm Clinic's treatments were effective over time. Findings suggested that psychodynamic treatment is effective over time, and pointed to the importance of the first three months in bringing about symptom change as measured by the OQ. Consistent with existing literature, demographic variables such as race, gender, age, and educational level were not found to impact outcome. Diagnostic complexity, initial symptom severity, diagnosis, and number of therapy sessions were all found to significantly impact treatment outcome. This data was the basis of a former Hamm Clinic employee's doctoral dissertation regarding the effectiveness of psychodynamic psychotherapy. The dissertation was later published as an article in a peer-reviewed social work journal, Research on Social Work Practice.
